Impact of COVID‐19 pandemic on secondary school teaching staff and primary to secondary transitions

In common with many countries, UK schools closed for most pupils periods between March 2020 and 2021 because of the Covid-19 pandemic, significant implications school education primary to secondary transition. The transition occurs at a crucial time child development, evidence suggesting may have range impacts on pupil wellbeing academic performance. We wanted understand how pandemic had affected teaching staff their during move school. study involved semistructured interviews leaders from 12 subsequent thematic analysis. findings include; potential benefits digitalization practice; improving both inclusion efficiency, an enhanced interface new parents resulting virtual tours open evenings, scope existing teacher training regard learning concerns over wellbeing, increased levels anxiety lack emotional intelligence lockdowns. concludes that whilst overall impact was probably detrimental pupils' transitions practice, some potentially educational opportunities arisen.
